Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery; this includes gum and mints.
No aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (Motrin, ibuprofen, Aleve, Advil) five days prior to surgery. You may continue taking Tylenol.
If you are prescribed blood thinners by your physician (including Coumadin (warfarin), Plavix, Xarelto, ) special arrangements will need to be made with your family doctor or cardiologist prior to surgery as to when you should stop and restart these medications.
If you are a smoker, do not smoke after midnight the night before surgery.

MTASC (the ambulatory surgery center) or Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford or Stonecrest Medical will call you 1-2 days prior to your surgery with an arrival time for surgery, if you do not hear from them, please call MTASC at 615-896-6800, Ascension St Thomas at 615-396-5525 or Stonecrest Medical Center at 615-695-7250.
If you are in pain management, we will provide you with 1 postoperative pain prescription. Your insurance my not cover this prescription and you may have to pay out of pocket. You are responsible for making your pain management clinic aware that you been given a narcotic pain medication prescription after your surgery.
If you have a rash, scratch, bug bite, laceration or new injury prior to your surgery, please call us immediately. If you do not call us, your surgery may be cancelled or rescheduled on the day of surgery if the injury compromises your safety.
If we have requested surgery clearance, you are responsible for obtaining the clearance from your primary care physician or cardiologist. Please ensure that we receive the clearance prior to surgery.
History of MRSA protocol: If you have ever had MRSA, you will be prescribed the following and please take as directed:
Intranasal Bactroban for 3 days prior to surgery
Shower or bath with Hibiclens for 3 days prior to surgery.
You will receive Vancomycin as your preoperative antibiotic on the day of surgery.
Read all materials provided to avoid cancellation or rescheduling of surgery.
Failure to follow any of these instructions may cause your surgery to be postponed or cancelled.
